The Rules for Singular and Plural Nouns




First Rule:

We all know this is the first rule for the plural form of most nouns, you have to add "s"

Examples:

Cat - Cats

Pen - Pens

Mug - Mugs

Book - Books



The Second Rule:

The nouns which end in x, s, ch, or s sounds, you have to add "es".

Examples:

Match - Matches

 Box – Boxes

Fox - Foxes

Moss – Mosses



The Third Rule

The nouns that ending in f or fe, you must change f to v and add es.

Examples:

Wolf – Wolves

Leaf – Leaves

Wife – Wives



The Fourth Rule

There are some nouns that have different plural forms

Examples:

Woman – Women

Mouse – Mice

Goose – Geese



The Fifth Rule

The nouns That are ending in vowels like y or o, do not have definite rules.

Examples:

Toy – Toys

Baby – Babies

Potato – Potatoes

Stereo – Stereos



The Sixth Rule

There are few nouns that have the same singular and plural forms so you have to remember them as they are.

Examples: 

Deer – Deer
Sheep – Sheep
